About Balcas Energy:

Balcas Energy is part of Balcas, a natural leader in the world of timber.
We opened our first sawmill in 1962 and became one of the largest in the UK and Ireland. Our success came from our knowledge of and respect for timber. In our quest to make the most of every precious tree, Balcas Energy was born.

A co-product of our operations is pure sawdust. In 2004, using natural tree resin as a binder, our engineers pioneered the production of high quality wood pellets.

Originally known as brites, our high grade EN plus pellets have since grown to become 50% of our business. In 2016, Balcas purchased the UK’s largest wood pellet distribution company Forever Fuels and in 2019, with growth in mind, rebranded as Balcas Energy. Balcas Energy is proud to employ some of the most experienced biomass experts in the UK and Ireland and thanks to our advanced Combined Heat and Power plant, both of our production sites are self-sufficient.

Balcas Energy’s Invergordon and Enniskillen sites have production capacities of 120,000 tonnes and 60,000 tonnes of wood pellets respectively. Our operations are so efficient that we put surplus electricity back into the grid throughout the year.

Balcas employs over 380 people and an additional 300 are engaged in forest harvesting and haulage on our behalf.

Delivery was on time. There was a bit of confusion over whether my boiler has to be turned off while delivery takes place (it doesn't), so it would have been helpful if I had known beforehand that this question was going to crop up.

Excellent service. Delivered promptly and notified us of delivery time. Only criticism would be that some pellets were spilt and left on the pavement/road and one of our neighbours complained to us about it.

Ms. Flisch, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. While far from a frequent occurrence the nature of wood pellet deliveries can sometimes mean that small amounts of product may be spilt. The most common cause is that as a store fills up the wood pellets back up along the delivery hose. This could be due to a number of reasons; inaccurate estimate of the current amount in the store or poor visibility into the store. As the delivery hose is disconnected some pellets can spill out. This is covered in our terms and conditions 4.12.2. The driver informed me of what happened and in most instances would have cleared the pellets, however, an ill timed hail shower made the clearing up rather difficult; due to the hygroscopic characteristic of wood pellets. The driver will endeavour to leave your next delivery in a more satisfactory condition. Kind Regards, Tim Finlay

All good except your over zealous use of IT should be reviewed. I agree IT can be great but you should very much look at the end user experience - I received way too many emails and communication with real people then seemed difficult. Don't use IT as a replacement for the personal touch!

I was impressed with the service right from the start. Your driver very kindly called on the day of delivery to say approximately when he would be arriving. First impressions were excellent as the the driver was friendly and professional. The the delivery was much faster than what I have been used to and your driver happily explained the procedure he was undertaking and told me why he was doing it. I will definitely be using your company again in the future.

Delivered on expected date less than an hour after the scheduled time. Driver telephoned to keep me informed of this minor delay and was very helpful and informative, as this was my first delivery.

Everyone is really helpful and pleasant to deal with. Delivered when you said, courteous service and no complaints. Sorry I didn't offer a cup of tea but I got my mother on the phone and that was it!

I'm not sure what normal is? We are new to biomass and ordered a pallet of pellets from you for commissioning. Our installer had the boiler up to temperature using his own pellet stock and we relied on your delivery to keep it going. The delivery failed to arrive that Friday so the boiler went out over the weekend so we had to switch back to oil. We have since ordered our first 9 tonne delivery but it was a frustrating process as no-one seemed to know what day it would be delivered - after about six phone calls (aided by a helpful lady on the desk) we eventually had the order confirmed. As a new customer I can't say we were very impressed. We have 9 properties to run off our system so will probably be spending a fair bit over the next 30 years…..

Service was very good but unfortunately the lorry's wheels churned up our neighbour's side of our drive. I appreciate our drive is just wide enough and the driver has to back up or down our drive but perhaps next time he could " churn " up our side of the drive if necessary! Otherwise quick. clean and efficient service. Many thanks, Dennis Burrowes.

Your delivery arrived on time and with the correct amount on board. This was blown as quickly and efficiently as possible. Mark is very well informed and was most interesting about the quality of the pellets. Now he knows his way around he made it all look very easy.

Excellent attitude and competence by your delivery driver. The access is fairly limited and yet this didn't present any issues to him. The driver also contacted me theday before the delivery to confirm his arrival time.

You ignored our mutual agreement to fill up our store and only delivered 5 tonnes. I was informed you were arriving about 1.00pm and you arrived at noon.

Mr Hiram, I am sorry you were disappointed that you received the ordered quantity and that the truck was unable to arrive precisely at the estimated time. For future reference, if you want to adjust the arrangements in some way, please do not reply directly to our automated emails. As it explains in those emails, you should email sales@forever-fuels.com instead. Your email went to the forwarding101@forever-fuels.com address, which is for processing simple confirmations. If your request had been sent to the correct address, we could have tried but we could not have guaranteed the arrangements you requested. Other customers are likely to be delivered on the same run. We will aim to schedule our trucks to deliver as close as possible to their capacity, and there may therefore not be any excess to deliver however much is needed to fill you up. As it happens on this occasion, there was approximately 0.2 tonnes spare on the schedule, and the other customer took 0.3 tonnes less than they ordered, so we could have delivered upto 0.5 tonnes more if we had received an email to sales@forever-fuels.com instead of forwarding101@forever-fuels.com, but that may not be the case in future. You can always order a larger amount if you think you can take more. We also cannot guarantee that we will turn up precisely at the estimated time in future. Traffic and conditions at preceding customers may affect the timing, and may be compounded by the rules regarding drivers' hours. A discrepancy of an hour is not unusual.

Driver was excellent explaining what was going on explaining the reasons for everything. A credit to the company. Invoicing and delivery details across the web was also very impressive. Quality of product excellent. The reason for a less than excellent rating was the disconnect between initial contact and the schedule coming out for confirmation ; more than a week & after the initially indicated delivery date ! Very poor but more than offset by everything else.
