About Balcas Energy:

Balcas Energy is part of Balcas, a natural leader in the world of timber.
We opened our first sawmill in 1962 and became one of the largest in the UK and Ireland. Our success came from our knowledge of and respect for timber. In our quest to make the most of every precious tree, Balcas Energy was born.

A co-product of our operations is pure sawdust. In 2004, using natural tree resin as a binder, our engineers pioneered the production of high quality wood pellets.

Originally known as brites, our high grade EN plus pellets have since grown to become 50% of our business. In 2016, Balcas purchased the UK’s largest wood pellet distribution company Forever Fuels and in 2019, with growth in mind, rebranded as Balcas Energy. Balcas Energy is proud to employ some of the most experienced biomass experts in the UK and Ireland and thanks to our advanced Combined Heat and Power plant, both of our production sites are self-sufficient.

Balcas Energy’s Invergordon and Enniskillen sites have production capacities of 120,000 tonnes and 60,000 tonnes of wood pellets respectively. Our operations are so efficient that we put surplus electricity back into the grid throughout the year.

Balcas employs over 380 people and an additional 300 are engaged in forest harvesting and haulage on our behalf.

It all happened just as I expected. On time and properly delivered. I hope the pellets are up to scratch. Chris Buxton

Delivery was efficient. Driver helpful. I received a phone call prior to delivery which got cut off and so had no information about what time the driver would arrive. Tried ringing but no one answers phone before 9. I remember thinking that could be improved. It may be that I was unlucky this time as everything went smoothly last time, Lee texted me last time which was good but that did not happen this time.

Hi The service is very good but could be even better if the online ordering was simpler. A lot of words jus to place an order. Would be great if it could be simpler and if text alerts could be sent to confirm delivery date. Would def. be an inprovement however even so i would still order with you

Delivery was made at the agreed time. The driver called in advance to say that he was on his way. Five tonnes of pellets blown into my store in 30 minutes, with good dust control. What more can you ask?

Very pleased with Kevin the delivery driver. Punctual, careful, conscientious and friendly. What more could you ask for?

Pricing system is very opaque. I am sure this will put off potential customers. Twice now I have requested a shared delivery for 2-3 weeks' time - hoping that there was a better chance of getting it when I wanted by requesting it early. Each time I was given an almost immediate date, which was not ideal as I have a very small store, and, in mid winter the amount used in 2-3 weeks is a significant percentage of the total. Meaning I couldn't take as much as I had ordered. It would be helpful if, when ordering on line, the form self-populated with the previous details - eg I accidentally ordered an expensive 4 wheeler truck rather than the standard 6 wheeler as I couldn't remember how many wheels the truck had on it last time! Drivers always v helpful and friendly.

Anne, thanks for your comments. There is no such thing as a special "shared delivery" price any more. All regular orders are priced on the basis that smaller deliveries will be shared. It's up to us to organise that and you to decide whether you accept the date we propose to achieve that. This has removed some complexity and confusion, so long as it is understood that the system has changed. The alternative for smaller customers is to take a "round-robin" delivery at reduced cost on the back of other deliveries in your area. That is what you did. You received a reduced, flat-rate price for a delivery on the back of other deliveries in your area on a particular date. If you want to be specific about the quantity and/or the date, you can place a regular order and take a regular price, which would have been more expensive. You cannot ask for a delivery on the back of other people's deliveries to get a reduced price, and then complain that it wasn't the quantity or date that you wanted. Your price was flat-rate, so you were not disadvantaged by taking less, and it couldn't have been much more simple than a straight price per tonne regardless of quantity. If you are placing a regular order, the form is pre-populated. All you normally have to do is select the quantity you want to get a price. If you don't want a delivery around the default date (also pre-populated), you can change it. You then provide any further information you think we might need, such as a phone number or access restrictions (which are also pre-populated), confirm that there are no outstanding problems, accept the Ts&Cs, and place the order. The field to select vehicles is labelled "Can deliver with" and means exactly what it says - it is a list of vehicle types that we can deliver with. It is pre-populated with whatever was selected last time. Unless you know you can't take a particular type of vehicle, you should leave all the options ticked that could get in to your property (e.g. all 4- and 6-wheeler types). You aren't charged for a 4-wheeler by ticking it. But we know we can use it if it is the best choice for this delivery. You are only charged for a small vehicle if small vehicles are the only ones that are ticked (i.e. if small vehicles are the only ones that we can deliver with).

I had e-mailed Forever-Fuels to stop the delivery as I was away on the day offered following their instructions in the order. Consequently I had not cleared the way through to the fuel store. The delivery arrived anyway, the driver was very patient and helpful as he made the delivery after waiting for my wife to open the store (which she was not expecting to do so was also nor ready). Full marks to the driver who would have probably have been justified in going on without delivery. I need to work through the order process with Forever Fuels to make sure that deliveries are confirmed by both parties to prevent future problems,.

Colin, Sorry for the confusion over the delivery date. Your email seems to have got lost somehow. We are looking into how that could have happened.

All fine except there is always a mess from the input valve to the road AND it always seems to rain before I can get to it (obviously not your fault) so we have soggy wood droppings lining our drive. Also mix up with date. With original order I was told 22nd then it said 17th on the email which I hadn't noticed (having agreed 22nd) Otherwise Nigel really helpful with changing delivery time which was appreciated.

Delivery superb. Web-based systems for ordering need attention. It is probably better to phone than use the web.

My only issue with the delivery is the dust and mess it creates. Due to our Hooper being inside the dust bags that the drivers have do not eliminate the mess. WE have to hoover our boiler room after each delivery. If there was a way round this we would appreciate it.

The delivery itself was excellent (very good above). Matt was on time, very efficient, helpful and personable. I had expected a short wheel base so it can back into the drive and thus shorten the blow distance, hence the Good rating. However, Matt indicated that FF is now blowing at lower pressures so maybe the result will be fine. Thanks

As always driver was excellent and for a change, the back of house administration did not let them down. Quite a revelation, please keep it up.

Whilst the deliver was good, I am disappointed with the quote system, because my system was not compatible with yours and by the time I was able to place an order the price had risen.

John, Could you send an email to sales@forever-fuels.com, with more details of the compatibility issues between your system and our quote system. Was that a browser/javascript issue? For future reference, if you are having trouble ordering online, you can still order the old-fashioned way, by sending us an email or ringing us. The price peaks for deliveries around Christmas/New Year, for obvious reasons. If you had been able to take a delivery after the New Year, you would have got a lower price. If you have flexibility, that might be worth bearing in mind for future.

The actual delivery process seems to work well. Ordering is quite clunky, as you have to get a quote, make sure what the price is if the silo takes either above/below that amount, fix a delivery date, then reply to a confirmation and so on. Anything you could do to stream line the ordering process would be good-in particular as we are a regular customer. Even better would be some kind of discount for a frequent buyer, or greater discount if you jointly order with someone nearby-we have a neighbour, 1 mile away, who needs exactly the same pellets, and for a while Verdo would deliver say 8 tonnes to me and 8 tonnes to the neighbour, at a reduced price. Could you do that? Merry Christmas!
